Mamata Banerjee government has decided that they will not go against the Calcutta High Court order of allowing Durga idol immersion on the day of immersion, on October 1.

Infact TMC leader and senior lawyer Kalyan Banerjee has claimed that the verdict of Calcutta High Court has gone in favour of the state government. According to Zee 24 Ghanta, the state government decided to not pursue the case after consulting senior lawyer Kapil Sibal.

Rather, the government in a high-level meeting at state Secretariat Nabbana has decided to impose stringent conditions regarding immersion on Ekadashi, which is the same day of Muharram. Immersion can only be done after taking permission from the Police. The meeting headed by Mamata Banerjee was attended by Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Police Commissioners of Kolkata, Howrah and other districts. It was decided that prior permission will be needed for idol immersion on October 1. Police will have the final say in the matter and if the need arises, they may deny permission.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday hit back at the Calcutta High Court over its ruling on Durga idol immersion, stating that anyone can 'slit my throat, but no one can tell me what to do.' The Calcutta High Court  revoked Mamata Banerjee's order on Durga idol immersion and instructed the police to make separate routes for both Durga idol immersion and Muharram processions. While addressing a gathering at the Ekdalia Evergreen Club, Mamata said, "I will do what I can to keep peace in the state. Also, someone can slit my throat, but no one can tell me what to do".
