In a positive step towards the realisation of the goals of the Swacch Bharat campaign a tribal community of Halba in almost 52 gram panchayats in Chhattisgarh have decided not to marry their daughters in homes which do not have basic sanitation or toilets.

The campaign launched by the 10,000 members-strong community is called 'agar sauchalaya nahi to beti aur roti nahi denge' (If there are not toilets then we will not give away our daughters or bread). The step has been taken by the tribals to motivate people to build toilets in their homes and follow proper sanitation practices.

District president of the Halba Samaj, Virendra Masiha said, "Our aim is to ensure clean environment for everyone and this pledge would be a motivation for people."

The district is soon going to achieve a 100% open defecation-free status soon, an English daily reported.
