Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar started his 'Vikas Karyon ki Sameeksha Yatra' on Tuesday to take feedback from the masses about implementation of developmental works and social awareness campaigns run by the state government.

His Sameeksha Yatra commenced from West Champaran's Patilar village, the same village from where he commenced his 'Vikas Yatra' in 2009. "The purpose of the yatra is to take stock of the progress on the ground. The government runs on the feedback of the people," said Nitish, who has undertaken almost 10 yatras in the last 12 years.

The CM, however, had to face protests by the people on Day 1 itself. Sugarcane farmers in Bagaha police district raised slogans to draw the CM's attention to their condition. The CM said a proper platform would be given to them to put forth their grievances. In the same district, a section of women also protested against exclusive progress of certain villages. They alleged that the officials only worked for development of those areas where the CM's visits were scheduled.

On Tuesday, Nitish laid the foundation stone as well as inaugurated developmental schemes worth over Rs 100 crore in West Champaran. "The CM will take stock of implementation of Saat Nischay (seven resolves) scheme, total prohibition, Right to People's Grievance Redressal Act and the Right to Public Service Act. He will also check the awareness campaigns run to discourage dowry and child marriage across the length and breadth of Bihar," said a senior Bihar government official.

The Opposition targeted Nitish's yatra as a "gimmick" and Leader of the Opposition in Bihar legislative assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said, "The school building he had laid the foundation stone could not get four-wall in eight years, a primary-health centre is being launched thrice… What Vikas? He should undertake Prayashcitt (repentance) Yatra and Deemak (termite) Yatra."

Sources said Nitish is likely to face more protests, especially from contractual employees, who are demanding regularisation of job and equal pay for equal work, and have created ruckus at Nitish's yatras over the last few years.
