NIA issues summon to Zakir Naik to appear before March 14

The National Investigation Agency has issued a summon to Dr Zakir Naik, a founder of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) and a controversial televangelist to be appear before March 14.

The NIA has sent a summon to Zakir Naik's father Abdul Karim Naik at his Mumbai residence that was received by Naik's brother Dr Mohammad Abdul Karim Naik. The NIA has asked Naik to join the investigation at its headquarter in Delhi before March 14.

On November 19, the NIA had registered a case against the Islamic preacher and his organisation under anti-terror laws and for allegedly promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion and race.

The Union government had declared IRF a banned organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

After registering case against the 51-year-old Naik, IRF and others, NIA sleuths along with Mumbai police had carried out searches at various places in the Mumbai, including residential premises of some of the office bearers of the foundation, which was earlier put on restricted list by the Union Home Ministry for receiving funds from abroad.
