New picture suggests Netaji was alive in 1966 and met Lal Bahadur Shastri?

The mystery around Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s death refuses to go away and the latest fodder for conspiracy theorists is a photograph which is being considered as proof that Bose didn’t die in plane crash in 1945. According to these theorists, a forensic face-mapping report of the photo by a British expert suggests that Netaji might have been present at the Indo-Pak peace talks in Tashkent in 1966, with erstwhile PM Bahadur Shastri.

The photograph is being held as evidence that Netaji didn’t die in the plane crash in Taihoku in 1945 and validates a recent claim by Shastri’s grandson Siddharth Nath Singh that Shashtri had met someone who was considered an icon back home, while in the Soviet Union.

According to media reports, researchers will now urge PM Modi to take up the issue of Netaji’s death with Vladimir Putin when the former visits Lucknow later this month.

The Modi govt has begun the process of declassification of Netaji files and the first batch of 33 files were handed over to the National Archives in October and will be made public on Jan 23, 2016, Netaji Subhash Chandra’s birth anniversary. Earlier, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had released 64 files related to Netaji.
