A 25-year-old biker was allegedly crushed to death by a Mercedes-Benz in east Delhi's Preet Vihar area, police said on Monday. The incident led to chaos in the area and agitated locals allegedly set a police motorbike on fire.

The deceased Monu, a resident of Mandawali, was passing through the road near a petrol pump in Preet Vihar on his motorbike. The Mercedes-Benz driver, identified as Raj Kumar (52), allegedly hit Monu's bike while reversing his car, hardly 50 metres away from his bungalow.

Kumar fled the scene after the incident, reported around 10.30 PM on Sunday. He was tracked down on Monday with the help of the temporary registration number of the vehicle, which a few locals had noted down, said DCP (East) Bhairon Singh Gurjar. Kumar is the director of a Ghaziabad-based private finance company and he resides in east Delhi's Nirman Vihar area.

When police started tracking the temporary registration number, it emerged that the white Mercedes-Benz was sold by a distributor in Noida. It was sold off only a few months ago to the company where Kumar works, said the DCP Gurjar.

"Later it also emerged that the temporary number had lapsed and Kumar was driving the vehicle without valid registration," The DGP added.
