ND Tiwari's son Rohit Shekhar's wife, mother quizzed

The mystery into the Rohit Shekar 'unnatural death' case deepened on Saturday as the Delhi Police Crime Branch questioned the wife and the other family members of the deceased. Rohit was the son of politician ND Tiwari. The sleuths quizzed Shekar's wife, Apoorva, and mother Ujjwala for almost eight hours.

Ujjwala told the sleuths that in his last days, Shekhar shared a strained relationship with his Apoorva. "Rohit was worried about his career in politics. Often, he used to ask me why his career got stuck when others were getting election tickets. Recently, he also underwent a bypass surgery. We also went to seek blessings from Neem Karoli Baba. We returned on April 15. Later in the day, he left for Defence colony. I had gone to the Tilak Lane residence," said Ujjwala.

The family has five landline phones and it is possible that valuable evidence could be recovered through scanning of those communication, police said. Both Rohit and Apoorva suspiciously had illicit relationships, sources said.

"While Apoorva doubted him of having an affair with one of the relatives' wife, Rohit thought she was also involved in a relationship with a close family member," the source said. The sleuths are working on two parallel lines of investigation. One, they are probing if Apoorva had hired any aide to finish off her husband. The other, the wife is completely clean and has no role in the crime unveiled.
