NCP MLA Jitendra Avhad was suspended for the remaining winter session on Friday after he made objectionable remarks in the state assembly. The assembly passed the proposal to suspend Avhad with a voice vote and interestingly, both the NCP and the Congress did not protest.

However, the NCP did stage a walkout after Avhad was suspended. Congress leader of the House Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil made it clear that they staged a walkout protesting for the glorification of Latram Godse and not against Avhad's suspension.

The assembly was adjourned twice for 15 minutes each after Avhad made objectionable remarks asking whether the House was owned by the ruling benches, but in unparliamentary language. There was absolute pandemonium, due to which the speaker in the chair at the time, Yogesh Sagar, adjourned the House.

Before Avhad's remarks, the House witnessed heated exchanges between minister Prakash Mehta and NCP leader Chagan Bhujbal. Mehta was telling Bhujbal to sit down since chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was standing to reply to the debate on the law and order situation. Bhujbal had raised the point of order and said, "There is no need for us to take tuition from Mehta on how to behave in the House and there is no need for him to rush for the protection of the CM. But NCP members wanted to read out their adjournment motions which were negated by the Speaker. It was within the framework of the rules."

Soon after Bhujbal made his statement, treasury benches protested and Speaker Haribhau Bagde adjourned the House for 10 minutes. When the House resumed, Yogesh Sagar was in the Chair and adjourned the House for 15 minutes twice after Avhad's remarks. After the third adjournment, Avhad was suspended through a voice vote.

Parliamentary affairs minister Girish Bapat moved the motion for Avhad's suspension. He pointed out that Avhad's remarks had brought down the stature of the highest house in democracy in the state. The motion also prevents Avhad from entering the premises of Vidhan Mandal in Nagpur as and in Mumbai till the winter session comes to an end.
