Thousands of Amdavadis on Wednesday thronged the footpaths from the airport road till Gandhi Ashram to catch a glimpse of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, accompanied by his wife Akie.

Despite waiting for hours in extremely humid weather, and walking from distant areas to participate in the road show, Amdavadis across all age groups were not complaining. Instead, they were impressed by the Abes as they had changed into the Indian attire for the road show.

Nilanshu Shah, one of the 30 students of Tripada School, who played drums for the show, said, "I am very happy and delighted. This is for the first time that we saw an international political leader and to see their convoy was exciting."

A tuition teacher, Barkha Fulwani, walked with two of her students from Indira bridge area, to see Modi. She said, "Since Modi left Gujarat, we had not seen him in person. This was the reason I brought my students to catch a glimpse."

Meanwhile, people from different organisations were also brought in by local BJP leaders to participate. Interestingly, as the convoy passed the airport road, AMC sanitation workers ensured that the path did not remain dirty, as it is usually the norm after any public event.

As the convoy approached RTO circle, a stage was set up for the performance of Arvachin Garba, one of the popular form of garba. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) run schools kids were ready to wave Modi and Abe with Japanese and Indian national flags.

Outside Gandhi Ashram, around 2,000 people were standing waiting for the PM.
