Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today hailed 'Vatsalyagram' project of VHP leader Sadhvi Ritambhara.

"If one was to truly understand Sadhvi Ritambharaji and her work, one must also look at her role in building Vatsalyagram," Modi said.

He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of the ground-breaking ceremony of Vatsalyagram (shelter village) at Mahisa village in Kheda district.

Vatsalyagram, co-founded by Sadhvi Ritambhara, under the auspices of Param Shakti Peeth, is a combination of an orphanage, an old-age home and a widow-shelter where orphan kids, widows and elders live like a family.

"The philosophy behind this project has changed the perception of looking at destitute women and orphans from that of sense of pity to a sense of social responsibility", Modi said.

Many seers attended the ceremony for the first Vatsalyagram proposed in Gujarat, which will be built in 50 acers.

Initially, 50 housing units, including primary health centres for children, women, and elders, will be constructed under this project.
