The Karnataka state government has finally sanctioned a Film City for the Kannada film industry. This film city will be set on 100 acres of land at Immavu village in Mysuru, reports The New Indian Express. The project falls under the Varuna constituency, represented by CM Siddaramaiah in the Legislative Assembly.

The report adds that now the state is planning to get on board architects and experts— some even from Hollywood—to conceptualise and design the film city that will host all aspects of filmmaking. The Department of Information and Public Relations has been handed over the land and will establish the facility.

SV Rajendra Singh Babu, Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, has stated that they plan to make it one of the most modern film cities in India. He told the media that the plan is to develop the film city in such a way that an entire film can be produced on its grounds itself.

The report adds that Ashok Amritraj, the Indian American film producer, who was at the Bengaluru International Film Festival recently was going to assist in making the Mysuru Film City a most modern facility where even Hollywood films can be shot. Rajendra Singh Babu said that the Film City will follow a public-private partnership (PPP) model. “The first phase of the project needs at least Rs 150 crore. Therefore, private support was essential in making it happen,” he told media.

Now, they will lay the foundation stone and begin talks with interested parties, he said. Rajendra Singh Babu also said that there were many people in Bengaluru who were providing digital and graphic content to Hollywood films. He added that they if they decide to set up shop in the Film City, then the project will take off faster.
