Slamming statements that Honeypreet was the adopted daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, her former husband Vishwas Gupta said that the two shared an illicit relation.
A month after the Dera chief was convicted of rape charges, Gupta, who had earlier refused to speak to the media, addressed a press conference, where he levelled serious allegations against the convicted Dera head who is lodged in Sunaria Jail for raping two saadhvis.
Gupta had married Priyanka Taneja, later renamed Honeypreet in 2009, in a function held in the Dera. Within a few after that, the Dera chief announced his decision to adopt her. "Honeypreet is not his legally adopted daughter. To adopt a child, there should be a minimum age difference of 21 years; but, Honeypreet is only 13 years younger to him," he said.
From playing a game on the lines of Big Boss — a reality show in the Dera — six couples including Gupta and Honepreet had to live in the Dera for 28 days. Ram Rahim, however, allegedly asked Honeypreet to stay with him in his room, and told to lodge outside.
Narrating his woes, Gupta said that he was falsely implicated in various cases and sent to Patiala jail, where also the dera chief tried to murder him. "It was Balwant Singh Rajoana (who is serving a sentence in the Beant Singh assassination case), who proved to be my saviour in the jail. I would be dead otherwise," Gupta said, highlighting the threats to his life for speaking against Ram Rahim. He also accused the dera chief of forcefully claiming rights on his ancestral property, after he exposed the illicit relationship between his then-wife Honeypreet and Ram Rahim.
"He had tried killing me twice. Even when I had left the dera and shifted to Panchkula to live in a rented apartment, his men would keep a close watch on me and keep a tab on my movements. There is a threat to my life even now because he continues to wield a lot of power even inside the jail. I do not know whether you will see me again after this press conference," Gupta said.
