A day after the Supreme Court directed the Bihar Police for detailed investigation in connection with recovery of arms at former minister Manju Verma and her husband Chandeshwar Verma's home, an arrest warrant has been issued for Chandeshwar in the case.

Around 50 live cartridges were recovered from the home of the former minister in Cheriya Bariyarpur in Begusarai, when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had searched the premises in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home horror case on August 17. The central agency had also raided her official residence in Patna apart from around 10 other places the same day.

Following the recovery of the ammunition, the CBI had lodged an FIR under the Arms Act in Begusarai. A police team under a DSP-rank officer had been formed to investigate the case. "The accused have been unable to explain the presence of cartridges at their house. Some of the cartridges are those used in rifles by armed forces," a senior police said and added, "An arrest warrant has been issued against Chandeshwar, and he can be arrested anytime. Raids are on the nab him."

However, neither Manju nor Chandeshwar were present at the former's official residence in Patna. The security personnel posted at Manju's government bungalow said they had no idea when she had left, where she had gone and when would she return. They were not present at their Begusarai residence either, a source said. Their anticipatory bail pleas has also been rejected by the court.

Manju was the Social Welfare Minister of Bihar when a Social Audit Report of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences had blown the lid off the alleged rape and torture of at least 34 girls at a state-run shelter home in Muzaffarpur. She stepped down when her husband's name had cropped up in the investigation as a "frequent visitor to the facility" and call detail records established his links with Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the case.
