Muzaffarnagar riots: CJM sends murder case to sessions court

 A local court has committed a Muzaffarnagar riot case involving murder of eight people, for trial in a session court.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Narender Kumar yesterday committed it for trial and February 21 has been fixed as a date for hearing.

Eight people including a woman were killed and 24 injured by rioters who burnt their houses during communal violence at Kutba village under Shahpur police station in the district last September.

Police has registered a cases against 110 people and has also arrested two accused Kunwar Pal and Jogender in this connection. Both are accused of involvement in the violence.

During the investigation, the SIT identified 39 accused involved and court initiated attachment proceedings against 37 absconding accused. The SIT has also filed the first charge sheet against the two arrested in a court.

More than 60 persons were killed and over 40,000 displaced in communal violence that had broken out in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September last year.
