Shock and anger has swept across Kashmir after a badly mutilated body of a missing nine-year-old boy with his limbs chopped was recovered from Kehmil Nallah area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Umar Farooq Malik was missing since July 16 and his putrefied and arm-less body was recovered on Thursday night. After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to his next of kin for last rites.
Tensions rose in the area after the child’s body was recovered. People took to streets and protested against the gruesome killing of the boy. Sensing trouble, Jammu and Kashmir Police constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by additional superintendent of Police (ASP), Kupwara, to probe the case.
“With the recovery of the body on Thursday evening, the police have constituted a SIT to be headed by the ASP Kupwara and supervised by SSP Kupwara to investigate the matter. The police have also sought cooperation of general public for completion of investigation,” said a police spokesman.
People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone, said the brutal murder of a nine-year-old child in Gulgam depicts the deplorable drift of our society.
“Thanks SP Vaid (Director General of Police) for constituting SIT. The perpetrators of this brutal horrendous act have to be punished. I am a father of two young children. Whole night was thinking about his final moments-the blows rained on him severing his arm and burning the face”, Lone tweeted. “Imagine what would have been going through the mind of this innocent nine year old. He must have asked him. Why are you doing it to me? How would he have interpreted the action of this beast? J&K police should go all out to ensure the perpetrator rots in hell”, he added.
DGP, SP Vaid assured that they would crack the case very soon. “It’s really painful. We shall work out this case soon. I have confidence in my team”, he tweeted.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kuwpara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, said investigation and forensic teams have visited the spot where the body of the boy was found.
