1. The death count of encephalitis stands in West Bengal at 147 with the death of a three year old baby in Bankura district in West Bengal. ANother middle aged aman died in south Dinajpur district.

2. To add the woes of encephalitis, Bengal now faces the twin challenges of dengue and malaria. The state is trying hard to cope up with the deseases by capturing 66 pigs till now in the state. However questions remain if the state is equipped to test all the pigs for the desease. If the state has the infrastructure to deal with mosquito-borne deseases is also questionable.

3. The Jadavpur Land Housing cooperative society has come under the scanner with allegations of corruption into its functioning. Those who have paid the money are not getting flats, and ponds are being allegedly turned into solid land to build houses. The members of the society has complained to the chief minister now against the members of the governing body. The fisheries department has also lodged a case but no action has been taken as yet.

4. CPI(M) has decided that it will take action against the party members in North 24 paraganas in West Bengal who did not come out of their home due to fear on the dya of polling. There are almost 1000 party workers who are guilty of not leaving their homes on Lok Sabha election day, and the party said they could even be evicted from the party if required.

5.  The ministers are battling out amongst themselves not with their political work, but with how they would fare in organising Durga Puja in their own localities. Education minister Bratya Basu, Madan Mitra and Arup Biswas are all gearing up with their own Puja, and the battle will reach its climax only in September.
