Continuing their action against the Nigerian drug mafia, the Mumbai crime branch on Saturday made their third arrest in the case wherein a group of Nigerian nationals had attacked a police party during a combing operation.

Around 20-25 peddlers had assembled in Wadi Bunder area last week and 20 of them managed to flee despite 80 policemen being part of the operation. The accused has been identified as Ugwa Ugochukwu Stanley (31) — a resident of Dongri.

The consumers would come on bikes, cars, pick contraband and leave, the police said.

Post midnight, around 20 to 25 peddlers arrived in the Wadi Bunder area and as the police began their operation, the peddlers started running away on the tracks and started pelting stones on the police party. In the action that followed around eight policemen got injured. The police also fired three rounds, but none got injured.

The police had managed to arrest two persons Ifunanya Ginika Minike (37) and Ique Chikwneni Emanuel (24) while others had managed to flee. The police have seized 20 grams of cocaine from each arrested person, valued Rs2.5 lakh in the international market. The police have also seized seven mobile phones, digital weighing machine and cash Rs44,000 from them.

"Minike and Emanuel told the police during their interrogation that their accomplices assemble in Dana Bunder area. Subsequently we kept watch in the area and apprehended Stanley. We have seized 12 grams of cocaine and two mobile from his possession. We are determined in breaking the backbone of this racket," said a crime branch officer.
