Abhishek Mukherjee, a resident of Malad, allegedly sent several vulgar messages to the woman on Facebook, gathered her personal information from her bank and even filtered her matches on a dating app.
The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly cyber-stalking and harassing a 26- year-old woman for seven to eight years.
Abhishek Mukherjee, a resident of Malad, allegedly sent several vulgar messages to the woman on Facebook, gathered her personal information from her bank and even filtered her matches on a dating app.
Every time she blocked one account, he would create a new one and send more messages – most of them were in offensive language and contained vulgar videos, police say.
In 2016 when she was in Glasgow, she received similar messages and a request to call him on his mobile phone. Police says the woman's male friend received similar vulgar messages on WhatsApp in 2015 from the same person. The friend had then approached BKC police and lodged an FIR.
In March, the woman matched with one John on a dating app and they decided to meet at Haji Ali.
It turned out to be Mukherjee, and when they met, he told her that he has known her since 2009, when she was in college.
He then told her that he has been in love with her for eight years, and has been trying to talk on social media.
Mukherjee even told her that when she was studying in Glasgow, he had called her college to inquire about her and gathered information about her family from the bank in which she holds an account, say police. He also admitted to filtering out her Tinder matches while he worked with Google.
"Horrified by the revelation, the woman went home and deleted her Tinder account," says an officer from crime branch. "Subsequently, Mukherjee began harassing and threatening her through e-mails and calling from different numbers, under different identities. She then approached the police and filed a complaint."
Mukherjee has been booked for molestation, stalking and impersonation.
