A University in Gujarat has cancelled stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's show at the campus after 11 ex-students sent a letter to Vice-Chancellor calling his content "anti-national".

Kamra's show 'OTB’s Catching Up with Kunal Kamra and featuring Manish Tyagi' was scheduled to be held on August 11 at MS University of Vadodara's CC Mehta Auditorium, however, it has been cancelled now after the ex-students sent an email to the VC claiming his shows are based on 'anti-national' content.

"We informed Kamra verbally on Saturday night about the cancellation of his show. We were informed about his content being anti-national and controversial, so we went ahead with this decision. Since it is Sunday, we will make an official announcement tomorrow," Rakesh Modi, Coordinator of the CC Mehta Auditorium was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

In the letter, the alumni students said they suspect that the comedian has some 'ideological conspiracy to pollute the minds of Barodian youth ahead of 2019'.

In response to his show being cancelled, Kamra took to Twitter to 'celebrate' his day off.

"Ever been so cool that you find out from the news that you're not going to be working on a particular day? Celebrating my day off in the future on my day off today," Kamra said on Twitter.

Sharing the conversation with his landlord and an emotional post and  on Facebook, Kamra said that a comedian having a political opinion comes at a cost.

"A corporation will call you 2 days before your show and say 'Sorry, We'll have to cancel this one because our CEO is a big fan of the PM and we don't want any political jokes'," Kamra said in his post.

"Or you are booked for a news conclave kind of event when someone from a political party decides to show up at the last minute. You get a call saying 'We don't want to take a risk as our guests are really powerful people who we can't piss off, so we are entirely cancelling the comedy session'."

"Slowly and steadily you will even see that comedians who started out with you, don't want to be seen with you on social media because they don't want to risk what they have going for themselves. You are ‘Ya I get it, our friendship doesn't need insta validation," he further stated in his post.
