Spelling more trouble for boxer Vijender Singh, police have seized five kg of a party drug from the house of a relative of his sparring partner Ram Singh in Sangrur.

Five kg of methamphetamine were seized from the house of Ravicharan Singh, Ram Singh's brother-in-law, on Sunday, police said.

Pseudoephedrine, a banned performance enhancing substance, was also seized from the house, they said, adding that Ravicharan was not present when the recovery was made.

Ravicharan, himself a one-time state level boxer, has featured in some Punjabi music albums. Police suspect that he has gone into hiding.

After the seizure, police said they were probing all angles in the backdrop of the recent drug haul, in which the key accused is alleged drug smuggler Anoop Singh Kahlon.

Kahlon alias Ruby, the alleged Canada-based drug dealer, was arrested about a month back and 26 kg of heroin worth Rs130 crore seized from his residence in Zirakpur on the outskirts of Chandigarh.

Earlier, Vijender has denied any involvement in the drug racket. The name of Vijender, a DSP with Haryana Police, had cropped up in the drug haul case after his wife's SUV was found outside Kahlon's residence in Zirakpur when the contraband was seized.

The case took a new twist when one of Vijender's fellow pugilists Dinesh Kumar disputed the claims of Punjab Police.

Dinesh, an Asian Games silver medallist, alleged that the Punjab Police had planted Vijender's car outside the flat from where heroin was recovered.
