Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said that 20 persons have been arrested in connection with the lynching of  a Deputy Superintendent of police Mohammed Ayub Pandith.

A fortnight ago, one of the militants involved in killing of Ayub Pandith was killed in Redbug area of Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Investigation in the case going on expeditiously and effectively. 20 accused have been arrested and more arrests will be made soon," said Muneer Khan, IGP Kashmir.

Last month, Ayub Pandith was stripped naked and stoned to death by an irate mob after he allegedly opened fire at a group of people, who caught him clicking pictures near a mosque in downtown area of Srinagar.

The deceased was allegedly making a video of stone pelting by locals, and objecting to this, the violent mob attacked him. Ayub opened fire through his service pistol in his own defence after the situation became out of control.

Pandit belonged to Khanyar area which is adjacent to Nowhatta where he was killed.
