Moga molestation: High Court takes suo motu cognisance; to take up hearing today

Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of a letter written to it regarding the Moga bus molestation case in which a teenaged girl died after being allegedly thrown off a bus.

Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of a letter written to it regarding the Moga bus molestation case in which a teenaged girl died after being allegedly thrown off a bus.

Taking note of the letter sent to it, the high court directed that it be placed before a bench.

As per the high court cause list, the letter will come up for hearing before the division bench of Justices Satish Kumar Mittal and Harinder Singh Sidhu as against the state of Punjab and other respondents.

The victim, who was cremated today, was pushed off a moving bus on Thursday along with her mother after they resisted molestation attempts. The bus belongs to Orbit Aviation, the company owned by relatives of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. 

The girl was cremated on Sunday at Lande Ke village and before that her family members met the chief minister here.

Badal condoled the tragic demise of the girl and said,I came here as the father of girl (victim). As the Chief Minister of the state and a father figure. I being personally responsible for safeguarding the honour of every daughter of Punjab.
