Demonetization: Puducherry govt staff urged to use mobile banking for transactions

It is to bring in the trend of plastic money, when in crisis for cash.

    The Puducherry government has urged the employees of all government departments and public sector undertakings in the Union territory to support the Centre's demonetisation move to do away with black money, by using debit cards or mobile banking for all transactions till normalcy is restored.

    Secretary to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms here, S Sundaravadivelou yesterday issued a circular to all government departments and public sector undertakings and autonomous bodies, instructing the employees and staff to support the cause of the Centre 'in the hour of difficulty.'

    The circular stated that the salaries and allowances of the government staff here have been credited to their bank accounts as per the system introduced some years ago under ECS mode and all the employees have been provided with debit cards.

    'It is the paramount responsibility of the employees to support the cause of the government of India in this hour of difficulty,' it said adding the staff 'should use debit or credit cards for all transactions without rushing to the banks to withdraw the cash,' it added.

    It also pointed out that mobile phones might also be used for payment to utilities and purchases. All Departments heads, officers, Chief Executive Officers of public sector undertakings, autonomous and statutory bodies have been asked to notify their respective staff about the circular.
