Minor Dalit girl gangraped in Badaun dies

A 16-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang raped by three youths in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh and later succumbed to her injuries in Civil Lines area, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.

The victim, a class XI student, was allegedly raped by her neighbour, Prashant Arora and his two friends last evening when she went to fetch water, said Santosh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police.

"The girl was taken to a private hospital in a serious condition, but doctors said her condition was worse and that she (needed to) be taken to a bigger hospital. She later died at her residence," Singh said.

A case has been lodged against the three accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder, rape and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act (SC/ST) and Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

Police are currently on the hunt to find the accused who fled with his accomplices.
