Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday to discuss the security situation in the conflict-hit state.

Mufti met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urging him to start a dialogue process with Pakistan to end the cycle of violence.

In her meeting with the Home Minister she discussed the initiatives taken by Centre's representative Dineshwar Sharma in holding talks with a wide section of the society.

She raised the issue of infiltrations by Pakistan-based terrorists and cross-border firings that have hit the civilian population hard.

The meeting came in the wake of growing demands for a CBI probe into the gangrape and murder of a minor in Kathua and incidents of terrorist violence and encounters with security forces.

The continuous increase in violence in Kashmir has kept the region on boil for the past few years.

As many as 60 incidents of terrorist violence have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir from January to mid-March this year, killing 15 security personnel and 17 terrorists, according to data provided to Parliament.

The Concerned Citizens Group, including former Union minister Yashwant Sinha and former National Commission for Minorities chairperson Wajahat Habibullah in their latest report released on Tuesday stated that violence in the Valley shows no signs of abating and is, in fact, being stoked by "talk of revenge" and "unrestrained public statements" from various actors.

The group expressed deep anguish over the escalation in violence and said the solution to the present crisis lies in political dialogue.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh recently opposed any dialogue with separatists who "stay silent when innocent people are killed and give a call for strike when terrorists are eliminated".
