Indian media has a huge unused potential for bringing about clarity on the right practices in the society, said Essel group and Zee chairman Dr Subhash Chandra in Jaipur on Friday.

"There is still a lot to be done in India. The power of media can be used to lift the society so that clarity on right practices is brought about," he told media persons before addressing students of TAPMI School of Business at Manipal University as part of his motivational show.

The 'Dr Subhash Chandra Show', he said, was more of a CSR initiative aimed at clearing the confusion among students about what they should do in life, helping them understand their talent and gain confidence.

"I wanted to share my experiences in life and business in order to develop entrepreneurs who can give jobs," he said, adding that Zee with Angel Investors also helps budding entrepreneurs with venture capital.

Dr Chandra started the show by seeking to know what students felt about regrets in life and received a flurry of replies, mostly individual notions about regret.

He went on to reflect on Indian scriptures and cited incidents from the Bhagwad Gita to drive home the point, that one should live in the present and not regret the past.

"According to the Western philosophy, regret is needed. It's a warning sign that needs to be recognised and then corrected. But according to the philosophy of the Indus Valley civilisation and the Gita, there is no place for regret," said the media mogul.

He cautioned the students that bad jobs, habits and relationships can cause one to lose perspective.

Sharing his key insights, Dr Chandra said, "If we take life for granted, living without authenticity, we lose focus. We stop evolving and become trapped in the fear of failure and rejection."

In another session with the students on the importance of right communication, he dwelled upon various kinds of communication and said, "When you think about someone sitting miles away from you and instantly receive a call from him, it is also a kind of communication."

He explained how miscommunication leads to misunderstanding and, hence, failure. "It is important to prepare yourself before communicating... it saves time," he said.
