Medanta air ambulance crash-lands in Thailand, pilot killed

The pilot of an air ambulance died while the four crew members, including two doctors got injured after the ambulance of Medanta hospital caught fire and crash-landed near Bangkok, Thailand. The injured - Dr Shailendra and Dr Komal have been shifted to the ICU of the Bangkok Hospital.

A total of five people were travelling in the ambulance to pick a patient from Bangkok who was suffering from a lung disease. The hospital had hired a charter plane that flew on Sunday morning.

The pilot of an air-ambulance died as two doctors and a nurse from a Gurgaon hospital had a narrow escape when their plane crash-landed in Thailand. "The injured were shifted to Bankok Hospital by Army Helicopters. Our mission has just informed me that we have lost pilot of the Air Ambulance Arunaksha Nandy," tweeted external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.

The doctors are from the department of emergency and anaesthesia.

As the plane caught fire after the impact on Sunday, the two doctors from Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital sustained burn injuries.

A separate team of doctors from Medanta left for Thailand later that day to ensure proper treatment for the injured doctors at a burns facility.

The aircraft also had two pilots. The plane took a refuelling stop in Kolkata en route to Bangkok. It reportedly crash-landed at Nakhon Pathom airport about 730km from Bangkok on Sunday afternoon.
