MDMK Chief Vaiko on Sunday criticised the proposal to set up a temple for Nathuram Godse and install his busts and urged Tamil Nadu Government to take strong action to prevent such efforts by Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha.

The Mahasabha at its recent meeting at Dindigul had announced that it would begin construction of a temple for Godse by January 30 next year besides installation of his busts across the state, Vaiko said in a statement in Chennai.

Construction of temple for Godse would harm the unity of the people, he said, adding the proposal should not be allowed at any cost. "Tamil Nadu Government should nip in the bud the efforts to construct temple for Godse and install his busts", he said.

On Saturday,Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President EVKS Elangovan had asked Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to take steps to arrest the functionaries of the Mahasabha, who "threaten public peace" by seeking to install busts of Godse.
