Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday questioned the Centre's motives over the Naga Accord. Calling it a "pre-paid" arrangement, Gandhi said that no one knows about the Accord's contents, including the Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh.

"Why are the people of Manipur in the dark over the framework agreement," he asked the crowd gathered at his rally at Hapta Kangjeibung. He accused Prime Minister Modi of "spreading lies, hatred and enmity among the the communities", and said that demonetisation brought in a lot of hardships for the poor.

Gandhi's accusations on the Naga Accord follows PM Modi's remarks in his rally on February 25, where he said that the contents of the Accord had been discussed with CM Ibobi.

The Congress, on the other hand, faced heat from the BJP In their twin rallies in Manipur held at Kangpokpi in Sadar Hills and Moirang in Bishnupur, by party president Amit Shah, state party president K. Bhabananda Singh, and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Himanta alleged that while Gandhi campaigned against drug abuse in Punjab, the party gave a ticket to CM Ibobi's nephew, Okram Henry from Wangkhei constituency, who had been involvement in a drug seizure case. A CBI chargesheet in the case named Henry and another man in May, 2016.

"If the Congress candidate is peddling drugs, how will the future of Manipur be," said Himanta. He also derided the Congress over unemployment, problems of drinking water, education and poor education.

Shah said that BJP's first job if they come to power will be to remove the economic blockade. "If the BJP comes to power, we will ensure that the corrupt officials of Congress are not spared," he said.

He added that even after 70 years of Independence, the state has seen no development, and after the implementation of the Food Security Act, the Centre has released 1.5 lakh tonne of food, but it did not reach the state.

BJP's candidate in Kangpokpi has however, raised a few eyebrows. In Saikul, the party has fielded Nemcha Kiogen, wife of Thangbpi Kigpen, leader of the underground outfit, United People's Front.
