Man arrested with drug worth two crore

A man has been arrested in Bhopal on Tuesday with 1.75 kilograms of brown sugar worth about Rs 2 crore, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, crime branch sleuths intercepted a person near a bike showroom on Berasia road under Gautam Nagar police station area here yesterday. While checking his bag, 1.75 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 2 crore was found in it, a crime branch official said.

The accused, identified as Ahmad Khan (26) hailing from Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, worked as an electrician at Mandideep and lived in a rented house at Nasrullahganj in the state's Sehore district.
During interrogation, Khan admitted that he was involved in drug smuggling activities since long. He was waiting for a person at Berasia road to hand over the bag containing the drug, the official said.

He also told the police that he was working for a gang in Bhopal and nearby districts, the official added.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shailendra Singh said they suspect involvement of many persons in drug trafficking and a search for them was on.
