Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government’s ex-chief secretary, Sanjay Mitra obstructed development work of the state, alleged Minister-of-State, Urban Development, Babul Supriyo on Friday.

Supriyo took to Twitter and alleged that Mitra was the roadblock between the minister himself and the development of the state. He went on to term the ex-secretary as a ‘TMC cadre’ in IAS officer’s disguise.

“He was a TMC cadre in an IAS post. Under the government of India we will ensure that Mitra walks an extra mile to ensure that every mile of highway in West Bengal is done with super-speed,” wrote Supriyo on Twitter, further adding, “In West Bengal, the man who was the biggest roadblock between development and me was the now ex-chief secretary Sanjay Mitra. Mitra was single-handedly responsible for making sure West Bengal state officials do not cooperate with me.”

On several occasions, Supriyo has claimed non-cooperation on the part of the state government. He has even claimed that funds sanctioned from the Centre are often sent back without any developmental activities being carried out by the state.

On December 28, Mitra was appointed as the Road Transport and Highways secretary after serving as the Chief Secretary, West Bengal government. Mitra, a 1982 batch officer, had earlier served seven years in the Manmohan Singh-led PMO from 2004.
