The plane was on a training sortie for the National Flying Training Institute, Gondia, and it lost contact with the Mumbai Air Traffic Controller (ATC) at around 0940 hours, sources said.

Two people died on Wednesday morning after a training aircraft crashed into a river in Gondia, Maharashtra at around 9:30 am. The deceased have been identified as senior trainer Rajan Gupta and student Shivani, who were in the plane during the training session.
According to preliminary information, a training session was ongoing in Gondia's Birsi Training Centre when the accident took place.
The training aircraft of National Flying Training Institute (Plane no. DA 42 Nike) crashed in the Wainganga river at Mahalgao-Deori (Taluka Tiroda) in Gondia district of Vidarbha in Maharashtra
The police, ambulance and fire brigade have reached the spot. The accident took place near Mahalgaon and the plane still needs to be retrieved from the river.
