The assistant director of education recently filed an affidavit in the Bombay high court, stating that admission under the management and minority quota is the subject matter of the institute's management and thus cannot be merged with the Centralised Admission Process.

Balasaheb Oval filed the affidavit in response to a public interest litigation filed by a Pune student, Vaishali Bafna, alleging that the online entrance admission conducted for the past four years for Std XI in Mumbai and Pune regions was faulty and deficient.

The reply comes after the high court had suggested that the government come up with a revised system that could be introduced in the admission process for Std 11 for academic year 2015-16.

The judges had observed that every year students face difficulties while getting admission to the institute of their choice, and there is ample scope for improvement in the admission system. Further, it had said, "We expect the state will contemplate some stringent action against errant education institutions."

While Bafna claimed in her petition that after the first round, the seats remaining for the subsequent rounds are not published and that more transparency is required in the system for the benefit of students. It is also alleged that several institutions had given admissions in complete violation ofthe government policy and no action has been taken against them by the state.

The state, though, argued that the online admission process is based on rules and reservation policy of the government, and students are allotted colleges as per merit and preferences.

The system is transparent and beneficial, it further said. The petition will now come up for hearing when court resumes after vacation.
