The tug of war between BJP and Shiv Sena during the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election campaign over the issue of transparency had its impact on the Maharashtra government's cabinet meeting held on Friday. It was the first cabinet meeting after the BMC elections results came out on February 23.

With Shiv Sena demanding transparency in the cabinet meetings, BJP has made it clear that the cabinet meetings would be held as per the Constitutional provisions. Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde told media persons that they have insisted for transparency in the meetings too. He said that the cabinet meetings should be open for press reporters and even ministers of state should also be allowed to participate in the meeting.

BJP Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, however, made it clear that the cabinet meetings are held as per the Constitutional provisions. Shinde said that while responding to Shiv Sena's demand Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had told them he would consider the demand and take appropriate steps. Tensions between the BJP and the Shiv Sena will continue at least till March 8 when the election for the post of BMC Mayor is to be held.
