Maharashtra, Railways sign MoU, launch MUTP-3

The railway ministry and the state government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a special purpose vehicle called the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Company with 50% shares each under the Railways Act 1989. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis along with top railway and state officials participated in the function held in Mumbai on Sunday.

Prabhu also announced the launch of the Rs11,000 crore third phase of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). Parbhu stated that he had spoken to Fadnavis to include road option along with elevated rail corridor wherever feasible even if the cost of the project increases. Fadnavis during the function said that the state government would explore the possibility of elevated road along with railway corridor above the railway line.

Fadnavis while addressing the gathering said that earlier due to lack of participation by the state government in railway projects, projecst were delayed. "But now for the projects in Maharashtra in which State Government is partner, people will use the facility during the next 5 years," said Fadnavis.
