Maharashtra: Uddhav Thackeray ready to become chief minister, says Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut

BJP and Shiv Sena fought elections together and have a comfortable majority to form the government but the two parties didn't reach any consensus on the '50-50 formula' that led to the break-up of ties.

Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress seem to have entered the final phase of their discussions on the common minimum programme to form the government in the state.

As per sources, negotiations between the three parties on all issues for a proposed coalition government are underway and it is expected that the formal announcement of their alliance is going to happen soon.

BJP and Shiv Sena fought elections together and have a comfortable majority to form the government but the two parties didn't reach any consensus on the '50-50 formula' that led to the break-up of ties. 

Shiv Sena has been trying to form an alternative government with NCP and Congress and working on a common minimum programme. As per sources, Uddhav Thackeray will be the Chief Minister while NCP's Ajit Pawar and Congress' Thorat will get deputy CM's post.

Congress leader Ahmed Patel says that today's meeting has been inconclusive. The discussions will continue tomorrow, he added.

Another Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan said that all three parties had positive discussions on government formation. "We've reached consensus on many issues but talks to continue tomorrow. Whatever Sharad Pawar Ji has said is on record, I won't speak on that. When we've discussed all things, we'll speak on them," he said.

Uddhav Thackeray on Friday held a meeting with party workers, MLAs who in one voice said that they want Uddhav to be next Maharashtra chief minister, however, the Sena chief said he promised Balasaheb that there be a Shiv Sena CM and that he has not kept this post for himself.  Following this, Sena leaders said that they an elected representative to be Maha CM and left the decision on Uddhav.

Congress' Manikrao Thakre has said that chief minister should be of Shiv Sena as NCP and Congress have not claimed for the CM's post. He further said that Uddhav Thackeray should become CM, he is Shiv Sena chief, experienced, should become the chief minister.

Meanwhile, NCP's Chhagan Bhujbal has also said that the chief minister will be of Shiv Sena and he does not have information about other developments.

SP leader Abu Azmi has said that Uddhav has talked about Muslim reservation... they should fulfil it now... they should also get over Mandir Masjid talks now. "We don't have any objection over NCP-Congress forming government with the Shiv Sena but small parties must be taken into confidence..."

Also, the "decision on government formation with the Shiv Sena will be taken after talks with them," NCP's Jayant Patil has said.

As per sources, Ahmed Patel, Mallikarjun Khadge and KC Venugopal are leaving for Mumbai today. It is expected that NCP and Congress leaders will hold talks with Shiv Sena on the government formation.

Meanwhile, in an indirect message to the BJP, Sena's Sanjay Raut said, "sometimes it is better to exit from some relations, not due to some arrogance but for self-respect."

Earlier on Thursday, senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said the Congress and NCP have completed negotiations on all issues and there is complete unanimity between the two parties over government formation in Maharashtra.

Chavan said that Shiv Sena leaders have been informed about all discussions.

"Congress and NCP have completed discussions on all issues. There is complete unanimity. Tomorrow in Mumbai, we will have a meeting with our other alliance parties. Later in the day, we will have a discussion with Shiv Sena," ANI quoted Chavan as saying.

A final decision on the architecture of alliance for government formation in the state will be taken on Friday (today), he added. A meeting of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena is scheduled for today.
