Maharashtra government will provide compensation compensation of Rs. 30,800 and Rs. 37,500 per hectare towards crop damage for cotton growers whose crop is damaged by the attack of pest Pink Bollworm, Minister for Agriculture Pandurang Fundkar announced today.

The compensation for farmers on irrigated land would be more than the same for non-irrigated land, he said.
Speaking in the Maharashtra Assembly, Fundkar said that cotton growers would be provided bonus of Rs. 200 per quintal. Maximum limit for which bonus can be availed would be 50 quintals, he said.
Cotton growers in the state have incurred huge losses due to crop damage this year after the crop was attacked by pink bollworm pest. There is 41 lakh hectares of field on which cotton is cultivated and according to farmers' organisations, almost 50% of crop is damaged. State government sources said that 25% of the crop is damaged due to pest attack.
Fundkar informed the state assembly that the government has decided to provide compensation for farmers who incurred losses due to Ockhi cyclone after their vegetables and horticulture produce was damaged.
He said that for horticulture produce, compensation would be paid upto Rs 43 thousand depending upon insurance cover and for vegetable produce the compensation upto Rs. 13,500 would be paid depending upon crop insurance cover for the respective farmer.
The rice producing farmers would also be provided with compensation in the range of Rs 6,800 to Rs. 23,250 depending upon whether the farmer is from irrigated or non-irrigated areas.
Bonus for paddy or rice would be paid at a rate of Rs. 50 per quintal with maximum limit of fifty quintals for availing bonus.
