Maharashtra government will conduct a survey of cooperative societies in the state, to zero in on societies which exist 'only on paper'.

"The survey will be conducted from July 1 to September 30," Divisional Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Mumbai Vikas Rasal said on Friday.

The survey is being conducted as per the directives of Cooperatives Commissioner and Registrar, Cooperative Societies Chandrakant Dalvi, the senior official said.

Officers and staff of the department will make spot visits to the societies and check if it is functioning properly or exists only on paper, Rasal said.

"This will help the government cancel the registration of defunct societies," he said.

"We have prepared a sample form for collecting information from office-bearers of cooperative societies. In case they are unable to meet the visiting staff, they should ensure that the information reaches the department in the stipulated format by September 30," Rasal said.
