Maharashtra state election Commision on Monday restored the registration of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) after revoking it a month ago on account of non-submission of the mandatory income tax and fund details despite reminders.
The commission's order issued on Monday primarily means that the party can contest from anywhere in the state. The move is a relief for the Asaduddin Owaisi-led party which was looking forward to Mumbai's 2017 civic elections after winning two assembly seats in 2014.
The commission had barred the Hyderabad-based AIMIM and 190 other parties from contesting the civic polls in the state on July12. Only AIMIM has addressed the deficiency and got its registration back so far.
The party had accepted the lapses in filing the requisite documents. It had requested the commission to 'condone lapses' and submitted the documents along with the penalty of Rs one lakh.
