Maharaja Sayajirao University students' union poll: NSUI, third front wins key posts

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), a students' wing of the Congress, won the post of the general secretary of the students' union of the city-based Maharaja Sayajirao University.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), a students' wing of the Congress, won the post of the general secretary of the students' union of the city-based Maharaja Sayajirao University.

A woman candidate of an NSUI rebel group won the vice president's post.

The elections were held yesterday and the results of were declared late last night.

NSUI's Vraj Patel became the new general secretary of the university, while Sanoli Mishra of 'Jai Ho' group floated by NSUI rebels won the post of vice president.

While Patel bagged 6,727 votes, Mishra got 6,856 votes.

Patel's nearest rival, Harshad Chaudhary of VVS group floated by ABVP rebels, secured 6,063 votes. ABVP's Rahul Zinzala managed to get 1,222 votes.

Zeel Brambhatt the closet rival of Mishra was floated by NSUI rebels, she bagged 6,191 votes and ABVP's Anisha Mishra bagged 1,285 votes.

Earlier, an independent group held the post of general secretary, while the post of vice president was with the ABVP.

President of the student's union is directly appointed by the Vice Chancellor.
