The death toll from the derailment of two trains in Madhya Pradesh late on Tuesday night has been pegged at 20 persons.
The government said on Wednesday morning that all required steps are being taken to rescue surviving passengers, provide medical aid to the injured, and relief and rehabilitation to others affected by the mishap.
Railways has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of the kin of the deceased. Rs 50,000 to grievously injured and 25,000 for minor injuries.
Due to the accident several trains have been diverted and following helpline numbers have been initated.
