Lined up: Celebrations of many more leaders, literary stalwarts

After observing birth anniversaries of Sardar Patel, Deendayal Upadhyaya and now Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malaviya, BJP government will celebrate the birth anniversaries of Swami Vivekananada and Veer Savarakar as well.

The government also plans to bring alive regional social leaders, poets and freedom fighters. Come 2015, India will also observe the Mother Language Day on February 21.

The government, through ministry of human resources development, will be observing good governance day on December 25, the birthday of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. December 25 is also the birthday of one of the founder leaders of Hindu Mahasabha – Madan Mohan Malaviya.

On the day, the HRD ministry will also announce Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers' Training Programme. PM Modi will be making the announcement.

Starting January 12, next year, HRD ministry will celebrate birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda has been projected as a youth icon by the RSS. The HRD ministry will hold a college and university-level programme on the birthday of Vivekananda. RSS student

Celebrations of International Mother Language Day, which so far has been a low-key affair in India, will be celebrated across the nation on February 21. "Every state can celebrate its own language.

All schools across the country will be asked to celebrate and promote their mother language," said an official of the HRD ministry.

The government also plans to recognise and promote poets, social workers and freedom fighters, whose glory so far have remained confined to the states. Birth anniversaries of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, social reformer Subramania Bharti, Assamese literary stalwart Lakshminath Bezbaroa, Kashmiri poet Lal Ded will be celebrated from next year.

"It is not just about celebrating birthdays, but to acknowledge their contribution to the society and take their teachings and work forward," said a senior official of the ministry.
