The Army is preparing for a strong border action, sources said on Monday, a day after four Indian soldiers — including a Captain — were martyred in the neighbouring country's ceasefire violations on the LoC in Jammu.

The Indian Army's Vice Chief, Sarath Chand, said the force will give a befitting reply and its action will speak for itself. He said the Pakistani Army has been supporting infiltration by terrorists along the border. "We will continue with our process of giving a befitting reply. Our action will speak for itself," Chand told reporters.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also warned on Monday that the Army will give a befitting reply to Pakistan, a sentiment echoed by two other Union Ministers. Rajnath condemned Sunday's firing and said he has full faith in the valour of the Army that will "give a proper reply".

His deputy, Hansraj Ahir, also condemned ceasefire violations in Rajouri and Poonch districts, warning the aggression will prove to be Pakistan's foolishness and will cost it dearly. "Pakistan has been violating ceasefire along the LoC. And this year the number of violations is high. On Sunday, it again did it. We will not forgive Pakistan's actions," he said.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh also slammed Pakistan and said, "Have faith in the Indian Army. When the right time comes it shall give a proper reply." He referred to India's 2016 cross-LoC surgical strike against terror launchpads, and said, "When the Army carried out the attack, it didn't tell the media about it. Similarly, it will act accordingly at the right time." He also called Pakistan 'latkhor' (addicted to being beaten).

Captain Kapil Kundu, who died on Sunday, would have celebrated his 23rd birthday on February 10. He was from Haryana's Gurugram, and he is survived by his mother Sunita. The three other martyred soldiers were Riflemen Ramavatar, 27, from Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, Subham Singh, 23, from Kathua and Havilder Roshan Lal, 43, from Samba in Jammu and Kashmir.

More than 14 people have been killed in Pakistani shelling on the LoC and the International border since January 17. More than 50 people have suffered injuries and 50,000 have fled their homes in Jammu division.
