Jadhav was sending lewd messages to a 40-year-old woman.
Ten days after a case was registered in Dadar Police Station against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) sitting corporator of ward no. 184 for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 40-year-old woman by sending lewd messages to her on WhatsApp, the Dadar police on Thursday arrested Sudhir Jadhav from his residence.
According to the complainant, Jadhav had also threatened the victim and offered Rs 50 lakh to not file a complaint against him at the police station.
Although Jadhav denied the allegations calling it a politically motivated act, the police arrested him after verifying the allegations.
In her police complaint, the victim alleged that Jadhav had visited her residence on January 28, in her absence in order to campaign. However, when the victim later came to know about the corporator's visit, she personally called up Jadhav and invited him for a cup of tea.
Following this, Jadhav allegedly sent her objectionable messages and also insisted to send her photographs on WhatsApp. When the victim requested Jadhav to stop messaging her, he allegedly kept calling the victim until late night. She further alleged that he also harassed and threatened her.
"He was arrested today when it revealed during the investigation that the messages were sent from Jadhav's phone to victim. Our investigation is still on,"said Shantilal Jadhav Senior Police Inspector of Dadar Polce station.
A case under section 354 (criminal force intending to or knowing it will thereby outrage a woman's modesty) and section 509 (gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman)
"As the offence was bailable, Jadhav was produced before court from where he was released on bail." said Paramjeet Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police zone V.
Jadhav's wife Snehal is now contesing election from ward number 184 which is now reserved for woman.
