Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Bihar Chief Minister and ex-Union minister, took charge as the National President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), for the 10th consecutive term, while his younger son and former deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was declared as the party’s CM candidate for the 2020 assembly election, at party’s national council meet held here on Tuesday.

Lalu, who was elected unopposed, will continue on the post till 2020. Addressing the meet, Lalu targeted both Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, and said, “Nitish went to Bhitiharwa to remember Gandhi but has joined hands with his killers.” Lalu also said he will write a book on socialist leader Jai Prakash Narayan and his “total revolution”, which is misunderstood by many.

The RJD chief’s wife and former Bihar CM, Rabri Devi, also slammed the central and state governments for “using official machinery to implicate her family” and challenged the investigating agencies to come to Patna, if they wanted to question her. “The Centre and State should answer what wrong have I done?” she said.

Rabri has been issued numerous summons to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in Delhi for interrogation in cases related to alleged Benami properties of the Yadav family. However, she has so far skipped appearance in all the notices.

“I am well aware of the character of the CBI, ED and income tax and I will not be scared by their notices. Let them send any number of notices they want to. If they wish to question me, they will have to come to Patna for it,” said Rabri, presently an RJD MLC in Bihar. She even targeted Bihar BJP President Nityanand Rai over his “hand-chopping comment” and kicked off a fresh controversy saying, “If he has the courage, he should convert his words into action. But he should also know that there are many who are ready to do the same to Modi.”
