Kolkata's St Xavier's College and the new St Xavier's University are set to go for 100% digital transactions from this academic session bidding adieu to cash payment.

St Xavier's University Vice-Chancellor Fr Felix Raj told on May 15, 'Digital payment will become the norm in both St Xavier's College and University campuses and 75% of work has already been completed.' The digital changeover, first ever in the city, will be fully in place from this academic session in July.

'We will not receive any cash transaction and right from submitting admission form to receiving final certificates, only virtual payment will be accepted at the counters where card swipe machines will be at hand,' Raj, also the Principal of the College, said.

'The move was aimed to integrate the University and College campuses of St Xavier's with the new digital age and giving state-of-the-art facilities to students', Raj said. While the institution authorities have entered into an agreement with a nationalised bank for the digital transaction, a payment and commerce company is developing the mechanism.

'The students will be issued pre-paid cards for every transaction on the campuses, including canteen and they will have to re-charge the cards,' he said. St Xavier's College Calcutta Alumni Association (SXCCAA) Secretary Firdausul Hasan said, 'Our members have already gone on the digital payment mode since January this year.'
