A Class IX student of Don Bosco School, Park Circus in south Kolkata, reportedly influenced by the online suicide game Blue Whale had gone missing for several hours last week. He was following an instruction of the game, sources said.

“He said he was at a certain stage of the game where he had been asked to stay away from family for some hours,” said a source from the school who did not want to be named. The boy was evetually found in central Kolkata by his family.

Sources said that of late, he had been absent-minded in class. School Principal Bikash Mondal, however, said. “The child had had some problem at home. We found out later that he had gone to meet some old friends,” Mondal said.

He admitted that Blue Whale menace was a formidable one. “We will be doing an awareness programme for students and tell them about the perils of Blue Whale,” he said.

Other schools are following suit. Mukta Nain, Principal, Birla High (Boys) said that they have been talking to students during assembly. “This game has been taking over the minds of students. After exams are over, we intend to conduct an awareness programme,” she told DNA.
