Kolkata Police's 'dabangg' officer shunted out by Mamata government

Kolkata Police's 'dabangg' officer, Nagendra Tripathi, who ensured peaceful polling in parts of the city during the recent Assembly elections, was shunted out on Wednesday by the Mamata government.

In an order, issued by the state home department, the IPS officer, posted as Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police II (Detective Department), Tripathi was sent on compulsory waiting.

Tripathi had worked in Kolkata North and South areas during two phases of the assembly polls. On duty, he was seen warning the supporters of the ruling party to maintain the law and order situation in and around the polling stations.

He was also captured in a CCTV footage slapping the owner of a sweet shop, who had kept his shop open which fell under 100 metres of the polling premises.

Another IPS officer, Neelo Sherpa was replaced as the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police II (Detective Department). Sherpa was earlier posted as the Superintendent of Police, Anti-Corruption Branch.

Besides Tripathi, eleven other officers were transferred.
