Kolkata flyover tragedy: Police makes four more arrests in connection with collapse

Kolkata Police arrested four more officials of the IVRCL, the Hyderabad-based construction company which was building the flyover that collapsed on Thursday.

The police arrested Gopal Krishna Murti, Director Operations, SK Ratnam, Deputy General Manager Projects and engineers Shyamal Manna and Bidyut Manna.

With this arrest, the total number of arrests in connection with the Vivekananda flyover collapse has reached eight.

The police had earlier arrested Tanmoy Sil of AGM Projects, IVRCL, from Burdwan when he was trying to flee and three other officials— Mallika Arjun, senior AGM, Pradip Kumar Saha, Manager Structural VRF and Debojyoti Majumdar, Assistant Manager Administration.

While investigating the case, the police had come across several offices of IVRCL, which they later sealed. Three offices belonging to the construction company located at Kasba, Anandapur and Beadon Street were sealed. A guest house at Salt Lake registered under the name of the company was also sealed.

A portion of a Vivekananda flyover near Ganesh Talkies in Girish Park collapsed on Thursday afternoon leaving as many as 26 dead and over 150 people injured.
