In the tragedy of the Kerala floods that have killed at least 29, and have displaced thousands, two stories have cropped out that restore our faith in humanity. The first one is of an NDRF official Kanhaiya Kumar, whose viral video where he is seen saving the life of a child. The second video is of Madhya Pradesh resident Vishnu Kacchava, who sells blankets in Kerala.

According to several posts doing the rounds on social media, Kacchava came to Kerala with 50 blankets to sell, but once he came to know of the floods, he donated his entire stock to the district collector in Kannur.

According to a report in the Week, Vishnu has been coming to Kerala from Madhya Pradesh for the past 12 years. He calls the state ‘his second home’

“I am seeing Kerala in such agony for the first time. I cannot afford to watch people suffering and I gave them what I have,” Vishnu told the magazine.

Unaware that he became an overnight star because of his actions, Vishnu laughed and said, “Baap re! Has my news gone viral? My wife will be amused!”

Earlier, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescue officer Kanhaiya Kumar (not to be confused with the student leader), who hogged the headlines for saving a child in Idukki district of flood-hit Kerala, thanked everyone for acknowledging his selfless act.

The NDRF personnel, is being lauded on social media after a video of him, running across a submerging bridge with the child in his arm surfaced on media. The child was suffering from a high fever and had to be shifted to a nearby hospital.

Kumar, who was deployed in Idukki district for the rescue mission, told ANI, "I have been in this profession for past six years and after this video went viral and people praised me, I feel my hard work paid off well."
